Understanding and Reporting Human Trafficking | Virtual Education by Polaris | UberJuly 5, 2021
January is Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month. Human trafficking is a violation of human rights that affects 24.9 million people around the world. Traffickers often capitalize on the economic instability many face and a lack of awareness of the crime. As a technology company that provides a platform that transforms how people move, our company is in a powerful position to raise awareness around human trafficking and, with your help, make an impact.
This educational video, developed by Polaris, a leading advocacy organization in the fight against human trafficking, aims to educate Uber users on how and why trafficking presents itself, the myths and misconceptions of the crime, and how to reach out to the National Human Trafficking Hotline (operated by Polaris) if they need help or see something alarming.
It is important to note, there is no single sign human trafficking is occurring, education can help you to safely spot and report signs.
If you believe you’ve witnessed signs of human trafficking, or if you or someone you know might need help, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
